Sodium Glucoheptonate is a product designed to extend the thickening time of oilwell cement slurries up to ~120°C BHCT. This retarder can be used in all normal Canadian cements, and is compatible with standard chemicals such as fluid loss additives, dispersants, silica flour, defoamers, and weighting materials.
Oilfield Cementing: Typical dosage of Sodium Glucoheptonate ranges from 0.2 – 1.5% BWOB. In the presence of typical dispersant/fluid loss additive combinations, thickening times can range from 3 to 5 hours depending on retarder loading. Dry blending is recommended, although Sodium Glucoheptonate can be pre-hydrated for batch and squeeze operations.
This product can be combined with HTR Intensifier, increasing the range of effectiveness to approximately 220°C. However, laboratory testing is recommended in all cases prior to field use.
